The Boston Red Sox signed infielder Dustin Pedroia to an eight-year contract beginning in 2014 and continuing through the 2021 season.

The deal is reportedly worth $110 million. Pedroia had been signed for 2014 at $10 million under his old deal.

Pedroia is batting .303 with six homers and 58 RBI through 102 games this year. He has a career batting average of .303 with 96 homers and 467 RBI.

"Dustin's numbers are great, but they don't tell you how committed he is to winning," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "Watch him every day, on the field and in the clubhouse, and you see exceptional skill and passion. His teammates will tell you: he's a winner, a winner who loves the Red Sox and a winner who loves Boston."

He was named the 2007 Rookie of Year after hitting .317 with eight homers and 50 RBI in his first full season in the league. He won the AL MVP Award a year later thanks to a career-best .326 average with 17 homers and 83 RBI.
