Boston, MA – The Boston Red Sox will have injured starting pitcher Clay Buchholz re-examined on Friday after being forced to shut down the ace over the All-Star break.
Buchholz, despite spending the last month and a half on the 15-day disabled list, continues to experience pain behind his throwing shoulder. His latest setback occurred during Sunday's 25-pitch bullpen session.
The right-hander was experiencing the most success of his seven-year career before getting injured, posting a perfect 9-0 record with 81 strikeouts and a 1.71 ERA over 12 starts this season.
He was selected to his second All-Star Game, but hasn't taken the mound since a start against the Los Angeles Angels on June 8.
Buchholz has been taking anti-inflammatory medication after two previous MRIs revealed no structural damage.
