Cincinnati, OH – The Cincinnati Bengals have signed defensive end Carlos Dunlap to a five-year contract extension through the 2018 season.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Dunlap's contract was set to expire after the 2013 season. The Cincinnati Enquirer reported the new deal to be for a total of six years and $40 million.
"One of our key offseason goals was to continue signing and extending our key players, and the signing of Carlos is another positive step," said Bengals coach Marvin Lewis in a statement Tuesday. "Over his three seasons with us, Carlos has continued to progress and develop. He has demonstrated the ability to be productive as a three-down player, and we are glad to have him committed to be a part of our future."
Dunlap will enter his fourth season in 2013, and last year recorded 55 tackles with six sacks, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in 14 games. He also recorded his first career interception, returning it 14 yards for a touchdown against Baltimore.
The 24-year-old Florida product has 20 sacks in 38 games over his first three seasons. He was a second-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
