American midfielder Joshua Gatt needs knee surgery and will miss the rest of the Norwegian first division season.

Gatt was selected for the 23-man U.S. roster for the CONCACAF Gold Cup but hurt a knee while playing for Molde against Sarpsborg on June 29, just before he was to report to the American team in San Diego.

Molde said on its website Monday that he needs surgery.

Gatt is in the U.S. and will remain there for surgery and initial treatment before returning to Norway, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said.

Gatt was replaced by Stoke's Brek Shea on the U.S. roster.
