Argentina's Carlos Berlocq claimed his first ATP singles title with a 7-5, 6-1 win over eighth-seeded Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in Sunday's final at the Swedish Open.

The 30-year-old and 74th-ranked Berlocq became the ninth unseeded player to capture a title this year. Berlocq's only other appearance in an ATP-level final came in Vina del Mar in February 2012.

Berlocq attacked Verdasco's serve, resulting in 16 break-point chances. He converted five of them while saving half of the four he faced.

Verdasco has now lost his last six finals since winning his fifth career title in Barcelona three years ago.

The 29-year-old Verdasco had won the only previous meeting with Berlocq, a straight-set triumph in Auckland early in the 2012 season.
