Report: Heat re-sign Chris Andersen

Miami, FL – The Miami Heat have reportedly re-signed forward/center Chris "Birdman" Andersen to a one-year contract, according to the Miami Herald.

Andersen, 35, signed a 10-day contract with the Heat on January 20 and was signed for the remainder of the season on February 8. He averaged 4.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.0 block, and shot 57.7 percent from the field in 42 games last season. The Heat went 39-3 when Andersen played, including a 27-game winning streak.

He was also effective in the playoffs, averaging 6.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 20 postseason contests, helping Miami to its second consecutive NBA championship. He was a perfect 15-for-15 against the Pacers in Games 1-5 of the Eastern Conference Finals but was suspended for Game 6 for committing a flagrant foul on Indiana's Tyler Hansbrough.

Over 11 seasons with the Nuggets (2001-04, 2008-12), Hornets (2004-06, 2008) and Heat, Andersen has career averages of 5.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per contest. He was suspended from January 2006-March 2008 for violating the NBA's anti-drug policy.
