The Texas Rangers are expected to place All- Star pitcher Yu Darvish on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a strained muscle in his right shoulder.

Darvish was slated to start Thursday's finale of a four-game road series against the Baltimore Orioles, but after feeling discomfort in the muscle during a throwing session on Monday, the Rangers and Darvish decided to skip the scheduled start rather than push through it.

The 26-year-old Japanese right-hander will be eligible to come off the DL on July 22 and is expected to start that night against the New York Yankees.

Through 18 starts this season, Darvish has posted an 8-4 record with a 3.02 earned run average to earn his second straight All-Star Game selection.

Though he will not be available to pitch, Darvish is expected to attend Tuesday's All-Star Game festivities at Citi Field.
