Rangers re-sign Hagelin

The New York Rangers have agreed to terms on a new contract with forward Carl Hagelin, the team announced Wednesday.

According to Newsday, the pact is for two years and worth $4.5 million for Hagelin, a restricted free agent who had 10 goals and 14 assists while playing in all 48 games for the Rangers last season. He added three goals and three assists in 12 playoff contests.

The 24-year-old has played the first two seasons of his NHL career with the Rangers, recording 24 goals and 38 assists in 112 games. He has added three goals and six assists in 29 postseason contests.

New York also reached a deal with another RFA in defenseman Justin Falk, who was acquired by the Blueshirts in a trade with Minnesota on June 30. The 24- year-old blueliner appeared in 108 games with the Wild over the past four seasons and posted one goal, 14 assists and 100 penalty minutes.

Hagelin's signing comes two days after the Rangers locked up cornerstone defenseman Ryan McDonagh with a reported six-year, $28.2 million contract on Monday.
