Boston Red Sox pitcher Andrew Miller, already on the 15-day disabled list, will likely miss the remainder of the season due to left foot surgery.

The left-hander, who was put on the DL Sunday with a left foot sprain, sustained the injury Saturday against the Angels. He tripped while attempting to cover home plate after giving up a single to the Angels' J.B. Shuck during the seventh inning of Boston's 9-7, 11-inning loss.

The left-hander was taken to an area hospital for x-rays, which revealed the sprain.

The 6-foot-7 southpaw has been a key bullpen member for the current AL East leaders. Through 37 appearances this season, Miller has posted a 2.64 earned run average and struck out 48 batters in just 30 2/3 innings.
