Sunderland, England – Sunderland announced Tuesday that the club has completed the signing of United States international Jozy Altidore from Dutch Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar.
The 23-year-old signed a four-year deal with the Black Cats, joining the club for an undisclosed fee.
Altidore began his career with Red Bull New York of Major League Soccer before moving to La Liga to join Villarreal in 2008. He enjoyed loan spells at Xerez, Hull City and Bursaspor before signing with AZ Alkmaar in 2011. The Livingston, N.J., native scored 38 goals in 67 appearances with Alkmaar and has notched 17 goals in 60 appearances with the U.S. national team.
