The Nashville Predators made their first foray into free agency, inking unrestricted free-agent forward Viktor Stalberg for $12 million over four years.

The 27-year-old Swede finished the lockout-shortened 2013 season with nine goals and 23 points in 47 games for the Chicago Blackhawks. The fourth-year pro struggled in the postseason, however, totaling just three assists and earning a spot in the press box for the first two games of the Stanley Cup Finals.

A former sixth-round pick of Toronto back in 2006, Stalberg has collected 52 goals, 52 assists and 132 penalty minutes in 243 career appearances for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blackhawks since 2009.

Later Friday, the Preds announced that forward Matt Hendricks was inked to a four-year, $7.4 million deal and goaltender Carter Hutton joined the club on a one-year, two-way pact.

Hendricks posted five goals and eight points with 73 penalty minutes in 48 games for Washington this past season. The 32-year-old Minnesotan has 27 goals and 31 assists to his credit over 263 NHL appearances for the Colorado Avalanche and Capitals over parts of five seasons.

Hutton was retained on a deal which will pay him $550,000 in the NHL and $100,000 in the AHL. The 27-year-old was 26-22-1 with a 2.72 goals-against average and two shutouts for Chicago's minor-league affiliate in Rockford.

Adding to their first-day spoils, Nashville also announced the signing of forward Eric Nystrom to a four-year deal worth $10 million and forward Matt Cullen to a $7 million contract over two years.

Nystrom scored seven times and added four assists in 48 games for the Dallas Stars in 2013. In 408 pro games with the Calgary Flames, Minnesota Wild and Dallas Stars since 2005, he has totaled 46 goals and 83 points with 306 penalty minutes.

Cullen completed his 15th NHL campaign by registering seven goals and 27 points over 42 games for Minnesota Wild. A former second-round pick of the Anaheim Ducks back in 1996, the 36-year-old has skated in 1,073 contests for six teams and compiled 202 goals and 562 points.
