The New York Mets designated veteran relief pitcher Brandon Lyon for assignment following Thursday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Lyon, signed to a one-year contract by the team in February, went 2-2 with a 4.98 earned run average over 37 appearances this season. The right-hander gave up a run on three hits in 1 1/3 innings of work in Thursday's 5-4, 15-inning loss to the Diamondbacks, four days after he was shelled for six runs on five hits while recording just two outs against Washington.

The 33-year-old is 42-47 with 79 saves and a 4.16 ERA over 572 games during a 12-year stint in the majors.

New York will announce a corresponding roster move prior to Friday's start of a three-game series at Milwaukee.
