Seven years later, Danny Briere has decided to join the Montreal Canadiens.

The veteran forward signed a two-year contract with the team on Thursday.

Briere, 35, became a free agent when Philadelphia opted to buy out the remaining two years on his eight-year, $52 million deal following the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Quebec native drew the ire of Montreal fans when he rebuffed an offer from the Canadiens, who were aggressively courting him as an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2007 before he signed with the Flyers.

Briere has registered 286 goals and 373 assists in 847 career regular-season games with Phoenix, Buffalo and Philadelphia, and is well-known for his playoff prowess. In 108 postseason contests, he has racked up 50 goals and 59 assists.

In 34 games with the Flyers this past season, Briere recorded six goals and 10 assists.
