Philadelphia, PA – PGA TOUR - THE GREENBRIER CLASSIC, The Old White TPC, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia - The PGA Tour is in West Virginia this week for the Greenbrier Classic.
Last year, Ted Potter, Jr. missed a potential winning putt on the second playoff hole before making birdie at the third extra hole to defeat Troy Kelly and earn his first PGA Tour title.
Phil Mickelson, making his first start since finishing runner-up to Justin Rose at the U.S. Open, highlights this week's field. Webb Simpson, Bubba Watson and Keegan Bradley will also be on hand, as will Michael Kim, the U.S. Open's low amateur, who is playing on an exemption for winning the Haskins Award.
The Golf Channel will have afternoon coverage the first two days before handing off to CBS for the weekend's afternoon rounds.
The PGA Tour heads to Illinois next week for the John Deere Classic, which Zach Johnson won last year when he downed Troy Matteson in a playoff.
EUROPEAN TOUR
ALSTOM OPEN DE FRANCE, Le Golf National, Paris, France - The European Tour shifts to France this week for the Alstom Open de France, continental Europe's oldest national Open.
Last year, Germany's Marcel Siem ended an eight-plus year absence from the winner's circle when downed Francesco Molinari by a single stroke.
Matt Kuchar will make his debut at the event this week. The world No. 5 will be joined in the field by Europeans Luke Donald, Martin Kaymer, Paul Lawrie, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter and Molinari.
Golf Channel will have coverage of all four rounds.
Next week, the European Tour heads to Inverness for the Scottish Open, where last year Molinari posted his second runner-up finish in as many starts when he lost to Jeev Milkha Singh in a playoff.
PGA TOUR CANADA
DAKOTA DUNES OPEN, Dakota Dunes Golf Links, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - The PGA Tour Canada returns this week for the Dakota Dunes Open after nearly a month absence.
The tour's previous tournament, the ATB Financial Classic, was canceled in late June due to sever flooding in the Calgary area.
Last year, Matt Hill 2-putted for birdie on the fourth playoff hole to defeat Will Strickler and win the Dakota Dunes Casino Open. The pair finished at 19- under-par 269.
There will be no television coverage this week.
The PGA Tour Canada shifts to Alberta next week for the Syncrude Boreal Open, which Cory Renfrew won in a playoff over Hill last year.
