San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey has been named the National League Player of the Week for the period ending June 30.

Posey collected 11 hits in a six-game span to lead the National League in batting average (.500) for the week. Seven of those hits were for extra bases, with the reigning MVP smacking four homers and three doubles.

His 23 multi-hit performances on the season rank second most among catchers in the N.L. after posting three more such efforts during the week.

Others considered for the award were Colorado's Michael Cuddyer and Wilin Rosario; Atlanta's Freddie Freeman and Jason Heyward; Yasiel Puig, Hanley Ramirez and Stephen Fife of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia's Chase Utley and Delmon Young.
