The Buffalo Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes worked a deal during Sunday's NHL Entry Draft.

Buffalo acquired defenseman Jamie McBain and the 35th overall selection from Carolina in exchange for defenseman Andrej Sekera.

McBain totaled a goal and eight points in 40 games for the 'Canes last season, and has recorded 19 goals and 56 assists in 206 NHL contests for Carolina over the last four campaigns.

Sekera, on the other hand, had two goals and 10 assists in 37 games during the truncated 2013 schedule. He has compiled 17 goals and 75 assists in 339 games for Buffalo over the last seven seasons.

With the pick, the Sabres selected center J.T. Compher from the USA's Under-18 development program.
