The Philadelphia Phillies acquired journeyman infielder John McDonald from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The Phillies will be the third club for the 38-year-old this season, having started the year with the Pittsburgh Pirates. McDonald has played in 24 games this year with the Pirates and Tribe, going a combined 2-for-38 with one RBI.

The veteran is expected to join Philadelphia on Saturday for the team's second test of a four-game set with the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Over 15 MLB seasons, McDonald owns a career .236 average with 27 homers and 202 RBI over 978 games.
