The Kansas City Royals optioned pitcher Kelvin Herrera to Triple-A Omaha recalled pitcher Will Smith from the minor league club.

Herrera was 3-5 with two saves and a 5.20 ERA in 29 relief appearances for the Royals this season.

Smith started one game for Kansas City earlier this season. The left-hander was 5-3 with one save and a 2.88 ERA in 17 games (10 starts) for Omaha this year.

The Royals also reinstated pitcher Danny Duffy from the 60-day disabled list and optioned him to Omaha. In order to make room for Duffy on the 40-man roster, the Royals designated pitcher Francisley Bueno for assignment. Kansas City also announced that outfielder Quintin Berry has accepted his assignment to Omaha.

Duffy has been sidelined the entire season recovering from "Tommy John" surgery.
