Cleveland, OH – Minnesota Twins pitcher Mike Pelfrey was scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Cleveland Indians. Instead, he is headed to the 15-day disabled list.
The Twins placed Pelfrey on the DL with a back strain. The move is retroactive to June 19.
Pelfrey is 3-6 with a 6.11 ERA in 14 starts this season, his first with Minnesota.
To replace Pelfrey on the 25-man roster, the Twins recalled pitcher Pedro Hernandez from Triple-A Rochester. Hernandez, slated to start Sunday, went 2-1 with a 5.85 ERA over eight appearances (six starts) for Minnesota earlier this season.
