Anaheim, CA – Peoria, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Seattle Mariners and first baseman Justin Smoak on Saturday agreed to terms on a one-year contract with a club option for 2015.
Smoak, the club's lone arbitration-eligible player, will make $2.63 million next year, according to several sources.
The 27-year-old slugged a career-high 20 home runs, while driving in 50 and hitting .238 over 131 games with the club last season. If he reaches 525 plate appearances in 2014, Smoak stands to earn $3.65 million the following season which includes a $150,000 buyout clause.
Since breaking into the majors in 2010 with the Rangers, Smoak has accumulated 67 homers, 71 doubles and 180 runs scored and batted .227 in 486 contests.
