A Sports Illustrated story released Tuesday stated that New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was questioned by Massachusetts state police investigating the recent murder of an unidentified Boston man.

According to SI.com, police have connected a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban rented in Hernandez's name with the apparent homicide of the 27-year-old man, whose body was found not far from Hernandez's home in the Boston suburb of North Attleboro on Monday.

A source indicated that the 2011 Pro Bowl selection is not believed to be a suspect in the possible murder. It is unclear as to whether or not Hernandez knew the victim.

Hernandez's agency, Athletes First, declined to comment on the pending case when contacted by SI.com.

The three-year veteran set career highs of 79 catches, 910 receiving yards and seven touchdowns during his Pro Bowl season of 2011. Hernandez played in just 10 games due to injuries last year, finishing with 51 receptions totaling 483 yards with five touchdowns.
