The Atlanta Braves have placed catcher Evan Gattis on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained oblique muscle.

Gattis went 0-for-3 during Monday's game against the New York Mets. He is batting .252 with 14 homers and 37 runs batted in through 53 games this season.

The rookie helped Atlanta through the first month of the campaign while Brian McCann recovered from October shoulder surgery and was named the NL's top rookie for each of the first two months of the season.

Atlanta recalled infielder Tyler Pastornicky from Triple-A Gwinnett to fill the roster spot. Pastornicky appeared in six games for the Braves earlier this season and had one hit in seven at-bats. He was optioned to the minors on May 6 when McCann came off the disabled list.
