Major League Baseball handed down a pair of suspensions to members of the San Francisco Giants.

Pitcher George Kontos -- who was optioned to Triple-A Fresno earlier Wednesday -- was given a three-game ban plus an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing at Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen during Tuesday's 8-2 Pittsburgh victory after both benches had previously been given a warning.

The penalty will not take effect until Kontos returns to the major leagues.

In addition, Giants manager Bruce Bochy was suspended for one game due to Kontos' actions. He is scheduled to serve that ban in the middle test of that three-game series Wednesday night.
