Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed pitcher Gerrit Cole on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder fatigue.

The right-hander last pitched on June 3 and was scheduled to make his next start on Monday against the Cubs. Charlie Morton will move back a day to face Chicago and Jeff Locke was recalled to take Morton's start Sunday against Milwaukee.

Cole went just 5 2/3 innings in his last outing against San Diego, throwing over 100 pitches before exiting the contest. He has pitched into the seventh inning just once in his last five starts.

The first overall pick of the 2011 draft has a record of 6-3 with a 3.64 ERA in 12 starts this season. He was 10-7 with a 3.22 ERA in 19 games during his first big league season of 2013.

Locke made a spot start for the Pirates on May 5 against San Francisco and allowed six runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings of a no-decision.
