Matt Marshall managed an even-par 70 on Friday and remained atop the leaderboard after two rounds of the Times Colonist Island Savings Open.

Marshall, who tied for 13th last year, finished 36 holes at the Canadian Tour season opener at 7-under-par 133.

Joe Panzeri stumbled to a 1-over 71, but remained in second place. He was joined at minus-5 by David Skinns (70) and Tyler Aldridge (68).

Devin Carrey (68) and Fergal Rafferty (70) share fifth place at 4-under 136 at Uplands Golf Club. Stephen Gangluff (68) and Kent Eger (69) are among eight tied for seventh at minus-3.

Marshall, who was runner-up at last year's ATB Financial Classic, opened with a birdie at the first. After four pars in a row, he gave that stroke back with a bogey on the par-4 sixth.

He ran off four more pars from the seventh. Marshall birdied the 11th, but stumbled to a bogey at the par-3 14th. The 28-year-old from Arizona traded a birdie for a bogey from the 16th before a par at the last.

NOTES: Last year's winner Andrew Roque posted his second straight 2-over 72, which left him three strokes outside the cut line at plus-4 ... The cut fell at 1-over-par 141 with 56 players moving on to the weekend ... Doug McGuigan's 4-under 66 was the low round of the day.
