The Texas Rangers placed first baseman Mitch Moreland on the 15-day disabled list Thursday due to a strained right hamstring.

Moreland sustained the injury running the bases in the seventh inning of Wednesday night's game in Boston. He returned to Texas Thursday morning to undergo an MRI and be examined by Rangers team physician Dr. Keith Meister. He will remain in Texas to undergo treatment for the remainder of this roadtrip.

Moreland is hitting .288 with 12 homers and 29 RBI in 58 games this season.

To replace Moreland, the Rangers have purchased the contract of first baseman Chris McGuiness from Triple-A Round Rock of the Pacific Coast League. The 25- year-old McGuiness will be looking to make his major league debut. To make room for McGuiness on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Colby Lewis has been transferred from the 15 to the 60-day disabled list.
