Rex Ryan says the New York Jets are not close to deciding on a starting quarterback and he won't make that call until he feels "100 percent comfortable."

Mark Sanchez, the incumbent trying to revive his career, and Geno Smith, the hotshot rookie, are competing for the job this offseason. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg recently suggested he hoped a front-runner would emerge early, but Ryan is content with letting it play out into training camp.

Ryan says "sometimes this guy looks good, sometimes this guy looks good" during organized team activities, although Sanchez has taken the majority of first-team snaps during sessions open to the media. Smith has worked with the starting offense at times throughout the other OTAs.

Both quarterbacks struggled Wednesday with several wide receivers out nursing injuries.
