The Dallas Cowboys have signed free agent tight end Dante Rosario and released undrafted rookie Paul Freedman.

Rosario, a fifth-round pick by Carolina in 2007, played in 13 games and started twice for San Diego last season.

The 28-year-old Rosario spent his first four seasons with the Panthers before splitting the 2011 season between Denver and Miami. In 91 career games, Rosario has 99 catches for 1,106 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Cowboys drafted Gavin Escobar in the second round and look like they will frequently use a second tight end with Jason Witten.

The Dallas roster has five tight ends a week before mandatory minicamp. The others are James Hanna, a sixth-round pick last year, Colin Cochart and Andre Smith. Freedman went undrafted out of Virginia.
