Alabama has won its first national championship in men's golf.

The Crimson Tide routed Illinois 4-1 in the match play final Sunday at Capital City Club's Crabapple Course north of Atlanta.

Bobby Wyatt got Alabama off to a strong start in the first match, winning the first seven holes on the way to a 6-and-5 victory over Thomas Detry. Trey Mullinax gave the Tide another point with a par on the 18th hole for a 1-up win over Charlie Danielson.

Just minutes later, Alabama clinched the title. Cory Whitsett made a matching bogey at No. 15 with Illinois' Alex Burge for a 4-and-3 victory. Up ahead at 16, Scott Strohmeyer rolled in a 3-foot par putt for par to beat Brian Campbell 3-and-2.

Thomas Pieters earned the Illini's point.
