Sacred Heart basketball coach Dave Bike has retired after a 35-year career at the school.

The move had been widely reported, but the school made it official on Thursday, and announced that assistant Anthony Latina has been promoted to succeed Bike and become just the third coach in school history.

Bike took over the program in 1978 and compiled a 530-498 record. He led the Pioneers to the 1986 NCAA Division II National title.

He also oversaw the school's transition to Division I and coached the Pioneers to the Northeast Conference Championship game in 2007 and 2008.

Latina spent the past eight seasons as an assistant on Bike's staff. He also has been an assistant at UMass-Lowell and Central Connecticut.
