The Detroit Lions signed running back and special teams player Montell Owens Thursday.

Owens, 29, played 104 games with the Jacksonville Jaguars over a seven-year career but was released by the team on May 16.

"The past seven years in Jacksonville, we've had three new head coaches, we've had three general managers and two different owners since I've been there," said Owens. "There was always a lot of turnover. A great organization, but there was always a new vision."

A two-time Pro Bowler, Owens played in 13 games (four starts) last season. He had 209 rushing yards with one touchdown on 42 attempts, eight receptions for 113 yards and eight tackles.

Over his career, Owens has 292 rushing yards and three touchdowns, 12 receptions for 132 yards and his 118 special teams tackles are a franchise record.
