Stoke-on-Trent, England (Sports Network) - Stoke City announced Thursday that Mark Hughes has been appointed the club's new manager.

Hughes takes over at the Britannia just nine days after the departure of Tony Pulis.

The 49-year-old most recently managed at QPR but was sacked following a poor run of results last November. After guiding the Wales national team and Blackburn Rovers to a moderate level of success, Hughes took over at Manchester City for Sven-Goran Eriksson in 2008 but was replaced by Roberto Mancini in December of the following year.
