New York Giants fullback Henry Hynoski will undergo surgery on Friday to repair an injured medial collateral ligament and a chip fracture to the lateral plateau in his left knee.

Hynoski suffered the injury earlier this week during the team's OTAs.

A timetable for his return was not announced, but Hynoski is optimistic about being ready for the Giants' opener in September.

"I am going to set my mind to being ready for the first game of the regular season," said Hynoski. "They said that is not an unrealistic goal, and I will do everything in my power to be ready for the start of the season."

Hynoski, entering his third season, played in all 16 games and started 11 last year for New York. Over two seasons, he has rushed for just 20 yards, but has 23 catches for 133 yards and a touchdown in 27 games -- all with the Giants.
