The St. Louis Cardinals placed pitcher Jaime Garcia on the 15-day disabled list because of a left shoulder strain, general manager John Mozeliak announced Saturday.

Garcia, who was limited to just 20 regular-season starts and 121 2/3 innings last season due to shoulder woes, has been tagged for 11 runs and four homers in a span of 11 1/3 innings over his last two outings. He began the year winning four of his first five decisions while pitching to a 2.25 earned run average over seven starts.

The left-hander served up a pair of two-run homers to Milwaukee's Aramis Ramirez while lasting 5 1/3 innings in the Cardinals' 7-6 victory over the Brewers on Friday.

Garcia joins fellow starters Chris Carpenter (shoulder) and Jake Westbrook (elbow) on the DL.

Mozeliak also stated the club will recall reliever Mitchell Boggs from Triple- A Memphis to take Garcia's spot on the roster.

Boggs recorded a 2.21 ERA and 34 holds as the Cardinals' primary setup man last season, but was banished to the minors earlier this month after going 0-2 with a 12.66 ERA and blowing two save chances in 14 appearances.
