The Washington Redskins have signed fourth-round draft pick Phillip Thomas, a safety from Fresno State who led major college football with eight interceptions last season.

The Redskins announced the deal Friday.

Thomas, a first-team AP All-American, was the 119th overall selection in last month's NFL draft. He sat out the 2011 season with a broken left leg and dislocated ankle.

Thomas' rookie deal is the fifth the Redskins have done with a drafted player this week, following safety Bacarri Rambo, linebacker Brandon Jenkins, and running backs Chris Thompson and Jawan Jamison.

Washington drafted two other players: North Carolina State defensive back David Amerson and Florida tight end Jordan Reed.
