The New York Mets placed reliever Scott Atchison on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday due to inflammation in his right elbow.

The move comes one day after Atchison allowed three hits, including a two-run homer to St. Louis' Matt Holliday, while failing to record an out in the Mets' 6-3 loss to the Cardinals.

In 19 appearances this season, Atchison has registered a 4.50 earned run average over 18 innings.

The Mets recalled pitcher Collin McHugh from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill the roster spot. The 25-year-old earned the promotion by posting a 3-2 record with a 2.74 ERA in eight starts with the 51s.

McHugh pitched in eight games (four starts) with the Mets last season and went 0-4 with a 7.59 ERA, while giving up five homers in just 21 1/3 innings.
