Former Cincinnati running back Jameel Poteat has transferred to Stony Brook and joined the Seawolves program, coach Chuck Priore announced Monday.

Stony Brook, which is joining CAA Football this year, has to replace running back Miguel Maysonet, the runner-up for the 2012 Walter Payton Award, although its returnees include another 1,000-yard rusher, senior Marcus Coker.

Poteat, from Harrisburg, Pa., has two years of eligibility remaining and will join the Seawolves for summer workouts. The 5-foot-10, 207-pound back played in 21 games at Cincinnati, rushing for 227 yards and two touchdowns on 57 carries and contributing on special teams.

"We're excited to add Jameel to our team," Priore said. "He's a very talented player who will have an immediate impact on our team. He possesses a great combination of speed and toughness and comes from a great high school in Pennsylvania (Bishop McDevitt). I think he'll enjoy playing in our system."
