US defender Timmy Chandler to miss rest of Bundesliga season with knee injury

American defender Timmy Chandler will miss the rest of the Bundesliga season with a knee injury that could impact his availability for World Cup qualifiers next month.

Nuremberg says the outside back tore a ligament in his left knee during training on Sunday and will be out for three-to-four weeks.

Chandler will miss the club's last two league games. against Fortuna Duesseldorf and Werder Bremen.

The 23-year-old player has appeared in 30 Bundesliga games this season, scoring one goal and creating three.

The U.S. has exhibition games against Belgium (May 29) and Germany (June 2), then plays qualifiers against Jamaica (June 7), Panama (June 11) and Honduras (June 18).
