McNeese State defensive coordinator Mike Collins might be switching teams in the Southland Conference.

Footballscoop.com reported on Wednesday that Collins will become the new defensive coordinator at Sam Houston State.

Neither Southland school has yet to announce the move.

Collins has coached 12 seasons over two stints at McNeese State, including since 2008. He also is the Cowboys' assistant head coach and handles the secondary.

Previously, he was the defensive coordinator and later the head coach at his alma mater, Louisiana-Monroe, the defensive coordinator at Northwestern State and he spent a season as the linebacker coach on Nick Saban's national championship staff at LSU.

Sam Houston State is seeking to replace Steve Stoker, who left last month to become the defensive coordinator at UTEP. He served in that position with the Bearkats the last four seasons.

The Bearkats have played in the last two FCS national championship games, losing to North Dakota State each time.
