NBA Draft prospect Bennett out four months

Former UNLV forward Anthony Bennett will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair a torn left rotator cuff, according to multiple reports.

Bennett, the 2012-13 Mountain West Freshman of the Year and a consensus projected top-five overall pick in June's NBA Draft, is expected to be sidelined around four months. Though the injury will prevent the talented 20- year-old from participating in pre-draft workouts, it isn't believed to affect his overall stock or availability for the upcoming NBA season.

"Minor Setback, Major Comeback," Bennett tweeted on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-8 Ontario native averaged 16.1 points and 8.1 rebounds in his lone season at UNLV, helping the Runnin' Rebels to a 25-10 record and a No. 5 regional seed in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Bennett is one a number of top prospects for the June 27 draft to be dealing with a significant injury. Kentucky forward Nerlens Noel, a prime candidate for the No. 1 overall pick, is on the mend from a torn ACL he suffered in February, while highly regarded Maryland center Alex Len is likely out 4-to-6 months after recently having surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left ankle.
