New York, NY – Cleveland Indians outfielder Ryan Raburn has been selected as the American League's Player of the Week for games played between April 29-May 5.
Raburn earned the honor by batting a torrid .591 (13-for-22) with four home runs, nine RBI and five runs scored over five games. The 32-year-old's batting average was tops in the majors for the week, and he also led all of baseball with a 1.182 slugging percentage and 26 total bases.
The first Indian to be chosen Player of the Week since Asdrubal Cabrera on April 11, 2011, Raburn also became just the fourth MLB player since 1939 to record 11 hits and four homers over a three-game span, joining Hall of Famers Duke Snider (1955) and Kirby Puckett (1987) and Shawn Green (2002).
Others considered for the award included Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers and the Angels' Mike Trout.
