Mexico City, Mexico – Tigres moved into sole possession of first place in the Mexican Clausura on Saturday with a 2-0 defeat of America at the Estadio Azteca.
The two sides came into the weekend level atop the Mexican top flight on 32 points apiece, but Tigres left the round in pole position thanks to two second-half goals.
After a scoreless opening period, the visitors broke the deadlock just three minutes after the restart as Danilinho opened the scoring in the 48th minute.
The lead was doubled 11 minutes later as Lucas Lobos gave Tigres an insurance goal to help the club seal all three points.
Atlas also came into the weekend level on 32 points, but it suffered a 1-0 defeat to Leon on Saturday to remain in third place on goal difference.
Morelia improved to 30 points thanks to a 2-1 defeat of Santos while Mariano Pavone's hat trick helped Cruz Azul crush Monterrey 5-1 to see his side climb to 29 points.
Also on Saturday, Matias Alustiza converted a penalty kick 10 minutes from time to lift Puebla to a 3-2 victory over Queretaro.
On Sunday, Luis Mendoza produced the lone goal in San Luis' 1-0 defeat of Toluca and 10-man UNAM claimed a 2-1 victory at Atlante behind goals from David Cabrera and Luis Garcia.
Tijuana ran out to a convincing 4-0 defeat of Guadalajara on Friday after Luis Rey scored in stoppage time to see Chiapas get a 2-1 win over Pachuca.
