Real Salt Lake scored two second-half goals en route to a 2-0 defeat of Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday.

Luis Gil got the home side off the mark early after the halftime interval while Javier Morales sealed the victory with a goal 19 minutes from time.

Real Salt Lake (4-4-2) improves to 14 points on the season, five points better than Vancouver (2-4-3).

After a scoreless opening period, Real Salt Lake wasted no time in breaking the deadlock as Gil nodded his side in front in just the second minute of the second half.

Joao Plata found space on the right wing and delivered an inch-perfect aerial ball to the back post where Gil was arriving to head home the opener.

Real Salt Lake's advantage was doubled in the 71st minute and Plata again assumed the role of provider, slipping a pass to the center of the penalty area for Morales to guide home to the back post.
