Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington was arrested Friday and booked on two counts of aggravated assault.

The arrest came after Phoenix police investigated alleged reports of a domestic violence assault with a women on Wednesday.

"This is a legal matter and I am limited in what I can say other than that my lawyer and I will continue to cooperate with investigators and welcome the opportunity for all the facts to be presented," Washington said in a statement released Friday. "I regret that the situation has brought this kind of attention to my family and my team. I look forward to resolving it as soon as possible."

Washington, 26, has already ran into some trouble this offseason. Nearly one month ago, he was suspended for the first four games of the 2013 regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

A second-round pick of the Cardinals in 2010, Washington earned his first Pro Bowl appearance last season after posting a career-high 134 tackles, nine sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception in 16 games.

He has registered 319 tackles, 15 sacks, four interceptions and three forced fumbles in three seasons with Arizona.
