Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom will not start in Tuesday's first-round opener against the Chicago Blackhawks due to a pre-game injury.

Backstrom was taking shots from his teammates in warmups, when he reached for the rebound of one particular chance and remained on the ice favoring his right leg.

He was taken off the ice under his own power, and backup Josh Harding completed the remainder of the session.

The 28-year-old Harding, who is fighting a well-publicized battle with multiple sclerosis, hasn't started a game since January 30 against Chicago.
