The Kansas City Royals have recalled pitcher Will Smith from Triple-A Omaha and named him the starter for the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians.

Smith went 2-1 with a 2.45 earned run average over four starts at Omaha this season.

The 23-year-old left-hander made his debut with the Royals on May 23 of last year and went 6-9 with a 5.32 ERA in 16 starts during his only major league season.

In three career starts against the Indians, Smith has posted a pair of wins, including his first big league victory in an 8-2 game on May 29 at Progressive Field.

Kansas City, which took the opener of the twinbill 9-0, did not have to make a separate roster move due to the newest MLB Basic Agreement which allows a team to add a 26th man to the roster in the event of a doubleheader.
