The Detroit Lions used their penultimate pick in the NFL draft to select Alabama tight end Michael Williams.

Detroit took the 6-5, 278-pound Williams with the fifth pick of Saturday's seventh round, the 211 overall.

The Lions already have tight ends Tony Scheffler and Brandon Pettigrew on the roster and Williams' future with the team could be as a blocker as the Lions seek to replace departed tackles Gosder Cherilus and Jeff Backus.

Williams was Detroit's fifth selection on the final day of the draft.
