The San Francisco 49ers selected quarterback B.J. Daniels of South Florida with the first of the three seventh-round selections in the NFL draft Saturday.

Daniels said the team will give him an opportunity at quarterback, but the versatile 6-foot, 210-product also could get a shot at other positions after playing some defensive back in college.

Daniels, the No. 237 overall selection, could fit in with the read-option offense the 49ers are now gravitating toward behind starter Colin Kaepernick and veteran newcomer Colt McCoy. Daniels passed for 2,078 yards and 14 touchdowns while rushing for 426 yards and five touchdowns with South Florida last season.
