North Texas coach Dan McCarney is back at work in his office a week after undergoing a heart procedure.

While the coach wasn't specific about his medical treatment, McCarney said Friday in a statement from the school that the medical staff was outstanding and he had already "begun the road to recovery."

McCarney, who turns 60 in July, says he's excited to be back in the office to continue preparing for his third season with the Mean Green.

McCarney has been in college coaching for 36 years, including three as the defensive line coach at Florida before taking the North Texas job. He was Iowa State's head coach from 1995-2006.

After suffering a stroke in February 2012, McCarney recovered in time for the start of spring drills the following month.
