Marlins claims LHP Below from Detroit

Miami, FL – The Miami Marlins announced on Thursday that the team claimed left-handed pitcher Duane Below off waivers from the Detroit Tigers.

The 27-year-old was designated for assignment on Wednesday to make room for the Tigers' 40-man roster for reliever Jose Valverde.

Below, who was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans by the Marlins, compiled a 1-2 record in four starts and 25 2/3 innings for Triple-A Toledo this season.
